I agree. Hopefully others don’t fall victim to their ineptitude .

I’d agree if not for the likelihood of endangering innocent bystanders/fellow motorists.

Sounds like wonderful parenting with a good chance of affluenza outbreak should something go awry.

Does this technically qualify the parents for a Darwin Award?

Eh, I had a 650hp Malibu wagon I drove often when I was 16/17. That car was far more dangerous than this Mustang.
Then again, I had been learning to drive high-powered vehicles since I was 12, and was taught how to handle them...........

What was the occasion for him to receive such a car?

Buy him some time on a road coarse (or permission to use an empty parking lot), and turn the traction control off.
That’s a quick and fun
way to start learning the
limits of the car and the limits of the driver’s skill. Spinning out
makes you learn to respect the skinny pedal pretty quickly.

I drove a V6 RAV4 today and I felt like it was gonna blow off the road. Yeah.

I drove a sketchy ass datsun 240z as a teenager and survived. If I had a 500 HP mustang I would have survived faster.

I had an 18 year old friend with a 500 hp car, didn't so much as get a ticket in it.

I know how you feel . A guy I went to HS with got the following brand new cars on his corresponding B’day:
16th - ‘98 SVT Cobra with some performance/race modifications I believe
17th
- ‘00 Z06
18th
- ‘01 Viper GTS
I’ll let you guess which one was the more worrying of the 3 in the hands of a teenager
...though as far as I know, they all survived fine.

It’s a Mustang. It seeks out bystanders.

500hp stang? Must have some mods for that. Stock 5.0s only make about 390ish to the wheels on a mustang dyno

Yep.
I had many sessions in parking lots/closed courses, along with street time, and time in more powerful cars than that Malibu.
I would say a teen who knows how to handle his car is safer in a 500hp Mustang than a clueless teen in a 90hp car.
Given the stupid things we did in low powered cars, I can say we were more likely to die in something with under 100hp than any of our 400+hp cars.
